Explore the spatial heterogeneity of cancer

This website provides browsable microscopy data generated in the Bienko and Crosetto labs at Karolinska Institutet as part of various projects on tumor heterogeneity that either ongoing or have been completed in our lab.

On-line datasets:


  1. Single-molecule RNA FISH of HER2/ERBB2 and Estrogen Receptor 1/ER1 in breast cancer as described in our paper in Oncotarget.
  2. Colored maps of 57 non-small cell lung cancers showing different tissue compartments annotated using a machine learning algorithm developed in the lab of our collaborator, Prof. Ewa Szczurek at the University of Warsaw, Poland. These data were obtained in the frame of a project funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research.
  3. Nuclei segmentation in tumor tissue, based on low magnification images with DAPI staining. These data have been generated as part of an ongoing effort in our lab to build a large Cancer Nucleus Atlas and explore the spatial arrangement of chromatin and various sub-nuclear organelles and compartments in different tumor types. The Cancer Nucleus Atlas is funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, the Swedish Cancer Society and the Cancer Research KI Program.
  4. Examples of lamin B staining in different tumor types. These data have been generated as part of an ongoing effort in our lab to build a large Cancer Nucleus Atlas and explore the spatial arrangement of chromatin and various sub-nuclear organelles and compartments in different tumor types. The images were pre-processed using our Deconwolf software for fluorescence image deconvolution. The Cancer Nucleus Atlas is funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, the Swedish Cancer Society and the Cancer Research KI Program.
